Western Region makes it to semi-finals at PM Cup, slams mid-western by 9 wickets

With its fantastic win, Western region has now secured its position in the semi-finals from group A in the on-going Prime Minister Cup one-day cricket tournament taking place in the Tribhuwan International Stadium in Kathmandu.

Mid-western lost the toss and accepted to bat first. The team put up a total of only 62 runs before the team got all out in 23 overs. With six of its players out at zero runs and none of the scoring more than 20 runs, the team had its first wicket fall at 24 runs, followed by 4 more wickets fall for an additional 1 run. The team was at a miserable state as the series of wicket fall thereon was quick and continuous, with the batting inning ending at a mere 62 runs. Suvindhu Pandey, Rajbir Singh and Amarsignh Rautela hit 13 runs each for the team. Western’s Bipin Karkia and Lal Adhikari were instrumental in Mid-western’s sorry state, both the bowlers picking 4 wickets each.

Western team, in its turn to bat, chased the low target in just 11 overs at the loss of only 1 wicket. Saurav Khanal, who earlier joined the crease as the mod order batsman, came to the pitch as the opener batsman in this match. Saurav, who had scored 2 consecutive half centuries in his previous matches in the tournament, hit 20 runs while Anil Gurung made 23 runs and Noordhoj Sen added 19 more runs to chase the target.

Western region earned 4 points from 3 and is one of the two semi-finalists from group A. We will now have to see which of the other group A team – Armed Police Force, Mid-western Central region team- will make it to semifinals.
