Finalists share the coveted Prime Minister Cup, courtesy rainfall

 

It is the finale match of the most-coveted and rewarding Nepali cricket tournament – the Prime Minister Cup 2017.

Nepal Police Club(NPC) and Tribhuwan Army Club(TAC) locked their horns for the finale match on June 8 held at the TU International Cricket ground, Kirtipur. TAC won the toss and invited NPC to bat first. NPC struggled to put up a decent target and scored a total of only 126 runs at the loss of 10 wickets in 45.1 over.

NPC lost its first wicket at only 4 runs. Dhamala hit 32 runs, the highest for the team before he was caught out by TAC’s Bhandari at Bhari’s bowl. The team did not have any significant partnership. Lohani, who came at number 6, scored 20 runs, the second highest in the match. TAC Mukhiya claimed 4 wickets for the team.

TAC required 127 runs in 50 over to win. But,the rainfall has brought the match to a halt, leading the organizers of the tournament to announce TAC and NPC as the joint -winners of first Prime Minister’s cup tournament 2017.

The second half of the game had TAC playing for only two overs. Until then, TAC had scored 7 runs at the loss of a wicket.

Sagar Pun from Tribhuwan Army Club was declared the Player of the Tournament andwas awarded with Rs 1 lakh. He made a total of 126 runs, the fourth highest in the tournament and took 14 wickets in the matches he played this season.

TAC’s popular player for this season, Susan Bhari, was declared the Best Bowler of the tournament for claiming 14 wickets in the 5 matches he played.

Western Development Region’s Saurav Khanal, who hit massive 270 runs in a total of 4 matches, was awarded the Best Batsman of the tournament. The best bowler and best batsman received fifty thousand cash prize each.

Western Development Region’s Bipin Khatri was declared the Emerging Player of the Tournament and awared a cash prize of twenty five thousand rupees.
