Eastern Development Region got knocked out of the tournament

Eastern Development Region seems to have tough luck at the on-going Prime Minister Cup One Day National Cricket Tournament. In the fourth match of the tournament, that was held on Friday at the Tribhuwan International Cricket Stadium, Kirtipur, Team Eastern got knocked out of the tournamnet.

Team Eastern, which had faced nine wickets loss in its previous matches against both Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal Police Club (NPC), had its last group- stage match against Far-western Region washed out due to the rain. This led into both teams; Eastern and Far-Western, sharing one point each. It means that Eastern failed to register a single win in Group B to crash out from the tournament.

In the match, Far-west won the toss and elected to bat. They were able to put up a total of 153 runs in 45.2 overs. The team did not have a decent start as its openers – skipper Surendra Chand and Roshan Nepali could put up a partnership of a mere 14 runs before the team lost its first wicket. The skipper gave the game a slow start by hitting only three runs off 18 balls. Bijay Rana, who came to crease at number four, contributed 55 runs to the team’s total, the highest in the game. His 55 runs included two boundaries. Similarly, Santosh Bhatta added 22 runs and Anil Kumar made 11 runs. The team clearly was not in a batting form as only four of its palyers (Roshan, Bijay, Santosh and Anil) were able to hit more than 10 runs.

On the bowling side in the first half of the game, team Eastern’s captain Puspa Thapa took three wickets, which includes getting Far Western’s Bhim Sarki duck out. Puspa was supported by Sagar Dhakal who also picked three wickets that was crucial in pulling Far-west back from adding a decent total. Sagar got Krishna Thagunna ducked out and also got Gyanendra Kuwar (9) and Sagar Bhandari (6) returning to the pavilion. Minash picked two more wickets for his ream Eastern.
In the second half of the game, team Eastern made just 22 runs at the loss of four wickets in four overs before the lunch break. The rain then did not allow the match to resume after lunch break. During the play-time, A. Subedi collected 10 runs for the team and was the only batsman out of 6 p[layers to came to help.
