Daredevils ditches their losing streak, puts up an all-round show

On Tuesday, May 2, the Delhi Daredevils brought an end to their five-match long losing streak with an applaud-able victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad, the defending champions at the IPL this season.

The match that was held at the Feroz Shah Kotla saw Delhi’s young batting line-up finally play in harmony as they battled Sunrisers’ total of 185 with five deliveries and six wickets to spare.

With an unbeaten 41off just 24 balls, New Zealand’s Corey Anderson took off the chase game to another excitement level. However, the victory was set up by the batting order at the higher end. It was Karun Nair, Sanju Samson, RishabhPant and ShreyasIyer who contributed brisk run-rated scores for the team’s victory.

The Sunrisers lost the toss and batted first. They posted a daunting T20 target of 185 for 3, courtesy Yuvraj Singh, who scored 70 not out off 41 balls, and Black Caps skipper Kane Williamson who added swiftly steady 24 to the total.

The onus of Sunriser’s loss strangely falls on the team’s bowlers. The  team had a hard time with their fifth bowler on the day. MoisesHenriques’s attempts to take pace off the ball on a two-paced wicket didn’t pay off and he went at over 16 runs an over. His profligacy meant Warner had to bowl an over of Yuvraj Singh at a crucial stage in the middle and the left-arm spinner served up half-trackers in a 16-run over. Thereon it was a cruise to the finish line.

After this match, the Sunrisers are still at No. 3 on the points table. They will now battle with fourth-placed Rising Pune Supergiant on May 6.On the other hand, Delhi will now lockhorns with Gujarat Lions on May 4.
